Same and Different Kindergarten Lesson
Same and Different – Kindergarten Lesson
What You Will Learn
This Same and Different Kindergarten Lesson introduces children to comparing objects. Kids will learn how to see what is the same and what is different.
Let’s Start!
Look at the picture below:

- These two apples look the same.
- The banana looks different from the apples.
This is how we compare objects. We see what looks alike and what does not.
In Kindergarten, children begin to notice the world around them. They see objects, animals, and people that look the same and others that look different. Learning about same and different is an important early skill that helps children with math, reading, and observation.
What Does Same Mean?
Same means alike.
When two or more objects look alike, we say they are the same.
Examples of things that are the same:

Children in the classroom may wear the same uniform.
What Does Different Mean?
Different means not alike.
When objects do not look alike, we say they are different.
Examples of things that are different:

Your school bag may be different from your friend’s bag.
Same and Different Around Us

We can see many things that are the same and different every day:
- The chairs are the same.
- The teacher’s bag is different from your bag.
- The windows look the same.
- Your shoes may be different from your classmate’s shoes.
This helps children notice and understand the world around them.
Let’s Remember!
- Same means alike.
- Different means not alike.
- We use same and different to compare objects, people, animals, and things around us.
Learning about same and different in Kindergarten helps children build strong observation, math, and reading skills.
