What is a Rectangle?

A rectangle is one of the most common shapes we see every day. It is part of basic geometry taught in Grade 1 math.

A rectangle has:

  • Four sides
  • Four corners
  • All corners are square corners
  • The opposite sides are equal in length

That’s what makes a rectangle different from other shapes like circles or triangles.

Let’s Look at a Rectangle

👉 A side is a straight line that makes the border of the shape.
👉 A corner is the point where two sides meet.

When we count the sides, we get: 1, 2, 3, 4.
When we count the corners, we also get: 1, 2, 3, 4.

So, every rectangle has 4 sides and 4 square corners.
